Methodology

Obama polls are averaged between the top national non-partisan polls. The ones used are listed in the detail section below. They are averaged to eliminate spikes or valleys by one poll from distorting the national feeling. Polls are recalculated when either several polls have changed or several weeks have passed.

Obama polls summary has the poll, the current number, the direction since the last poll and the change, and the date. See the summary section below.

Once an average is determine, that one number is kept for historical purposes and for the graph of job approval ratings. The history section includes this number for the past year while the graph goes back to June 2001.

Analysis

Overall, President Obama is up over this month. It's not a big gain at just over one and one half percent. It is surprising given his completing his promise to pull out the combat troops from Iraq which he did early.

Newsweek had a slight drop to 47%. CBS had a large jump (4 points) to 48%. Ipsos had a drop (3 points) to 45%. AP had a slight drop to 49%. Fox stayed the same at 43%. CNN stayed the same at 47%. NBC had a jump (2 points) to 47%. Pew had a slight drop to 47%. USA had a large drop (4 points) to 41%.

The record high so far is 63.42% (05 / 07 / 2009).
